Since 24 Sep 2026 around 08:58 UTC, my app cannot sync anymore. Before that it worked normally for a long time. I did not change anything in the app.
Error when opening the app:
“Unable to fetch app definition. Error: A task was canceled.”
Setup:
Data source: Cloud Database, PostgreSQL 16, self-hosted on a VPS (public port, “Don’t require SSL”)
25 tables on this source + 2 “Folder as a Table” on Google Drive
What I see:
Every App sync fails after exactly 240 sec, every Add row after ~110 sec.
In Performance Analyzer, each “Read data from database” takes 60–100 sec, even for a table with 1 row, and reads 0 rows.
Last successful sync: 24 Sep 08:22 UTC (took 25 sec). First failure: 08:58 UTC.
Performance Analyzer of one failed sync (24 Sep 11:49 UTC):
Sync 00:04:00.04
Fetch app definition 00:04:00.04
Read the tables in parallel 00:04:00.00 {"Tables":"27","DegreeOfParallelism":"2"}
Read a single table entity 00:01:42.43 Read data from database -> 0 rows
Read a single table account 00:01:41.96 Read data from database -> 0 rows
Read a single table category 00:01:42.06 Read data from database -> 0 rows
Read a single table product 00:01:42.06 Read data from database -> 0 rows
Read a single table company 00:00:35.50 (cut by 240 sec limit)
Read a single table contact 00:00:35.50 (cut by 240 sec limit)
Cloud database page is blank:
Since 25 Sep morning, I can not open the cloud database settings anymore. Both Login - AppSheet and the menu path (profile → My account → Sources) show only a blank white page, in Chrome and Safari. So I can not edit or test my data source.
What I checked on the server side:
PostgreSQL is running, pg_hba and firewall are OK. Connection from my own computer works fine.
I ran tcpdump on the VPS network interface (before firewall) during one full failed sync (5 minutes, 24 Sep 11:49–11:54 UTC). AppSheet tried to read 6 tables, but only ONE connection (SYN) arrived to the server, from 35.203.182.241. That one was answered in milliseconds. The other connection attempts never reached the server at all.
Other AppSheet IP seen: 34.83.174.97.
Hosting provider confirms no firewall on their side is active.
So it looks like AppSheet servers are not able to open the connections to my database, not a problem on my database.
I have been experiencing the same error since yesterday afternoon. I tried to access my cloud database but was unsuccessful. Now my account page is blank, and I cannot update the underlying data source. I am from Indonesia.
That was exact thing that I has experienced last night (I’m from Viet Nam). Terrible thing is no any official announcement from GoogleAppsheet side about this failed!
As stated in this post, the engineering team is aware of this issue and they are working on a solution. I’ll keep you posted with any information I receive.
Thank you @Jose_Arteaga for the confirmation. Good to know the engineering team is working on it. I will follow the other thread for updates.
Small update from my side, maybe useful for the team:
Since 25 Sep ~14:50 UTC the Sources page (My account → Sources) loads again.
But “Test” on my PostgreSQL data source still fails with “Failed to connect to database” (25 Sep ~15:00 UTC). Settings are not changed, and the database is reachable from outside.
The app still shows “Unable to fetch app definition. Error: A task was canceled.”
