Hello everyone,
I’m an administrator of a Google Workspace Business Standard domain with two accounts. I actively use Gemini Pro with my Google-converted business email address.
On my personal Gmail account, I can manually delete individual Gemini chats without issues.
However, on my Workspace account, the delete option simply does not appear. For each chat, I only see:
Pin
Rename
No delete button is available.
I already checked the admin console settings:
Conversation history is disabled
Retention is set
Activity deletion is limited to the 72-hour system rule
The system confirms: “Saving chats is in progress. Only an administrator can change this activity setting.”
Support confirmed the following:
Manual deletion is currently not available for Workspace users, regardless of admin privileges
Only automatic deletion applies (72 hours or retention window)
Multiple users have already requested this feature
They suggested submitting a feature request in this community
My issue
As a Workspace user who relies on Gemini daily, I accumulate dozens of chats that I cannot organize or remove. This makes the workspace cluttered and difficult to manage.
My questions
Is this limitation expected to change for Workspace users?
Is it already being tracked as a feature request by the Gemini team?
Are there any workarounds besides waiting for automatic deletion?
Can Workspace admins expect feature parity with personal Gmail accounts regarding chat management?
I am not requesting anything unusual—just the ability to manually delete individual chats in Gemini, exactly as free users can.
I completely agree that this is a good feature request! I have heard from my clients about this as a problem as well, and that they want it to be possible (Hi Ed and K12).
We are facing the same issue. In addition on the personal Gmail account you also have access to the “share” button, but not on the workspace account either.
Totally agreed, this is critical. It would also be extremely helpful to include an intuitive way to organise and interact with chats, create projects etc. Like chat gpt.
This isn’t a nice request. It’s a massive usability gap. There isn’t even a way to reorganize or archive a chat. Can you imagine if Google Drive didn’t have a way to delete files? What a nightmare. I’ve only made one chat with the tool so far, and it’s the last one I’m going to make.
This is core problem, so much so that we are declining to use Gemini business. It is entirely unmanageable as other users have pointed out, the sheer volume of chats many of which are trivial, and the inability to delete let alone archive or organize. The purpose of admins is to manage accounts, now Google has removed this ability.
I’m truly shocked that this isn’t possible yet! This absolutely is essential. My Gemini app is a mess! Please, pretty please Google…let us delete chats and folders to organize would be a huge bonus too
Indeed, would also like to see a way to manage/delete my chats. I’m a solopreneur using Google Workspace Business Standard. So don’t need the locked in system that I can’t delete anything.
So I’d like to see a way that I can have a history of my chats, but that I can clean it manually.
Manual deletion of individual Gemini chats should be available for Google Workspace users, especially on paid plans. The current limitation makes it difficult to manage and organize conversations effectively.
This is annoying and I think it’s a must in a modern product. All AI competitors, including team accounts, have this feature. Common Google… prioritize this!
I’m a single owner of the workspace account with zero expectations to add additional users. I don’t care about data retention for the “business” because I’m the only one involved.
Some chats I want to keep indefinitely. Others, I learned what I needed and don’t need the history any longer.
Add the workspace setting to allow deletion already or at the very least, allow us to archive a chat so we can get it out of our cluttered way. The UX for the Gemini sidebar is horrible for moderate to heavy users of the platform.
This is absolutely mental and totally defies the idea of AI in the first place. I am flabbergasted at the lack of vision by google here. Who wants a crammed chat history without the ability to delete the crap you dont want. Its astounding. The only other option is a entire delete after a certain period. So there maybe chats to wish to keep buried far down in all the crap you cant delete. Totall mess.
