Hi,
I’m experiencing an issue when trying to attach a document from Google Drive for Desktop to Gmail. An error message appears whenever I attempt to upload the file directly.
I raised this issue with Google Support, and they suggested the following workarounds:
- Download the file to my local computer first, then upload it to Gmail. This works, but I would prefer not to download the file locally every time.
- Attach the file as a Google Drive link. However, I do not want to share the file as a link—I need the file to be attached directly to the email.
Could you please help me resolve this issue or advise if there is another solution that allows me to attach the file directly from Google Drive for Desktop without downloading it first?

Have you set your file access management from restricted to anyone with the link? If so, try changing it first.

Yes, I have already tried changing the file permission to “Anyone with the link”, but the issue still persists.
At the same time, I also uploaded a PDF file without changing its permissions, and it was attached successfully. The issue appears to occur only with certain file types.
May I know if you have been able to reproduce the issue from your side?

I just tried both images and documents from Google Drive and there were no problems, everything was sent.

May I know you try upload a folder from Google Drive Desktop ?
Can you share me the step?
this is my step :
- open gmail
- then compose
- click “attach file”
- after that go to Mydrive > select the file > then open
then error
this one for pdf
