Hi community,
As a security and privacy measure to our company data and to prevent people from chatting with external/unauthorized people, we would like to have the option to not allow people to create Google Chat spaces or to be able to chat directly with external users to our organization.
This already exists for Education accounts [1], we just want this to be available for regular Google Workspace subscriptions.

I am confused on what you are asking since this feature already exists for all workspace editions from what I know though there is one edition where allowing external users in spaces can’t happen as a built in feature (from being a Chat Google product expert). But I think you may be asking if all (not just external) space creation can be turned off and ensuring all users can’t talk with external?
So just to clarify you are not asking about Control external Chat & spaces chat options - Google Workspace Admin Help
Or Chatting with external users - Google Workspace Admin Help ?

I apologize for the confusion, I did not make myself clear and I added extra details that caused this confusion.
The option we are looking for is to prevent users from creating Chat spaces and allow or deny this by OUs or Google Groups, we are trying to restrict not only external but also internal Chat spaces.
This is available for Education editions but not for regular Google Workspace editions (Business or Enterprise)
So sorry for the delayed response. Now I understand clearly what you are commenting about.
That is interesting that is a feature for education but not other editions and neither did I know that was a feature of disallowing creating the internal spaces.
Of course the extreme measure of turning off Google Chat as a whole product so no one can use does exist but I know that is not what you are looking for.
Hey! So I discovered today there is a way for other editions besides Education to disallow making chat stuff for end users: Google Workspace Updates: Controls for restricting conversation creation in Google Chat available to more organizations .
No idea if any of those controls would help you out but as soon as I heard about it, I thought of you. I think it is only for a couple of workspace editions but it now includes other ones besides Education.
