My email in Google Workspace (on only my account - as have multiple users) has about 10% of my sent emails immediately go to Trash for some reason. Google thinks it is due to some API (third party connection) integration but we removed all 3rd party items other than zoom and chatgpt for 1 week and it is still happening. Looking for some help to resolve this issue and identify what is causing it. All I can think of is I installed FYXER (email automation service) and then uninstalled it. Fyxer says it removed all items from my connection and nothing should have been left in my email at all that is causing this. Looking for some ideas how to solve this or possibly a person to help correct this. Thank you
Hi Dustin, you can send an email to dito@emailtester.raptoremailsecurity.com and that might help see if there is any issues we can find. Send an email like the ones you are sending that end up in spam. -KAM
I will send you a couple of the full emails as the emails I’m sending are very basic emails and sometimes only two or three words and it is completely at random on which ones are going to the trash versus sent. I think most of them are replies but I would have to double check however I reply to a lot of emails. I will send you some of the full entire emails and maybe a couple of screenshots even to show you when they are in the trash the sender just says “me”.”
Have you verified that none of your own Gmail filters are incorrectly configured?
Yes I’ve spent about 5 hours on this with Google support and we have gone through every filter we removed all third-party apps that were connected to Google other than chat GPT and zoom and I sent them over 60 emails in the format they requested that were the complete everything to review and they still feel like there is some remnant of an integration or an email tool that is left in there and that’s why I wonder if it is fyxer. I have installed it and uninstalled it twice as well as I have emailed with fixer over 20 times and they said they have completed deleted everything on their side for any remnant of any account even on their side. I appreciate your help.
Did you receive all the samples and such I sent over? Thank you
This usually happens when something is still acting on your mailbox, even after uninstalling an integration. A few things worth checking:
-
Filters & Rules – Go to Gmail Settings → See all settings → Filters and Blocked Addresses. Make sure there isn’t a filter moving “Sent” mail to Trash.
-
Forwarding/POP/IMAP settings – In some cases, old sync clients or POP downloads can auto-delete copies. Double-check under Forwarding and POP/IMAP that nothing unexpected is enabled.
-
App Passwords & Connected Apps – Even if FYXER is removed, an OAuth token may still be active. In Google Account → Security → Third-party access, revoke any lingering connections.
-
Audit Gmail logs – In the Google Workspace Admin Console, use the Email Log Search for your account to confirm what action is sending mail to Trash (filter, user action, API). That should narrow down whether it’s an automation, IMAP client, or API.
Since it’s only 10% of sent emails, it suggests a conditional filter or script rather than a blanket setting. If nothing shows up in filters or security, I’d escalate with Google Workspace Support — they can pull backend logs to see exactly which process moved the messages.
First step: revoke all third-party app access in your Google Account, then retest. If the behavior stops, re-add only the apps you trust (Zoom, ChatGPT, etc.).
Hi!
I had a couple of customers had this issue. In Gmail on the web, you can see which apps are currently connected to your account by scrolling all the way down through your messages and clicking on “Details” under “Last account activity: X ago”
You will see the “Authorized application…” along with an ID. If you click “More details”, depending on how verified the app is, you should see the application name which is connected to your account. In my experience, this happened due to Apple Mail in iOS causing the messages to be moved to trash.
The quick fix was to just remove the account from the Mail app in the iPhone settings and then add it back to it if you need it. However, you could just check if there is a filter in the Mail App causing this.
If you don’t find Apple Mail or any name in the Gmail details, you can use the ID in parentheses and go to the Google Admin console “Security” > “Access and data control” > “API controls” > “Manage app access” > “Configure new app”, there you enter the ID and click “Search”. See the example below:
Note: You don’t need to finish configuring, this is just to find what is the name of the active app connected to Gmail based on the details in Gmail.
Once you have the name you can go to this link (it is found in your Google Account profile > Security) https://myaccount.google.com/connections and revoke the access to the app.
Lastly, if this does not work, you could try turning off IMAP from your Gmail settings. An email client could also be doing this if you have one connected without OAuth.
I used to work for Google Support (Email Specialist) and I am surprised they have not been able to spot how the email is going to trash.
Let me know if this helps.
I am only seeing browser items as I use an android and in the past removed it and reinstalled the app.
This is the account activity you are referring to right?
I disconnected all 3rf party apps but Zoom and it is still sending emails to trash.
Thank you
Interesting. Never tested that.
I see info about both browseer sessions and app sessions, but if I click them, only the browser sessoins expand and give more info. None of the rows for apps give extra info.
