PDF missing images, just shows URL

Not sure if this is related to a similar issue to this -https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Announcements/An-Update-on-Missing-Images-in-PDF-Reports/m-p/226502#M239

We create lots of PDF reports with images. A typical report might have 20-40 pages and over a 100 images in it. It’s been working fine for months. Then on Monday it started having issues where the images aren’t there, just the underlying URL text in blue. It seems like it’s a timing out issue as I have one 31 page report that shows images correctly from page 5-10, page 11 shows 4 out of 10 images, pages 12-31 then just show URLs. Another report shows images fine from page 1-15, page 16 is missing 4 out of 9 images, page 16 is missing 7 out of 9 images, pages 17 onwards are missing all images.

This has happened before and it more or less always fixed itself. But I have a 60 page report I need to get to a client and I’ve not been able to for the last 4 days. Can someone copy in an Appsheet tech or something to work out why this is?

If this is an AppSheet problem, you’ll likely get faster help if you reach out to AppSheet Support directly. Their support model is better these days!

I have been facing the exact same issue and I see that other users are also facing similar issues since last week.

See the below thread for more context.

@Simon_Robinson Hello,

Did you find any solution to this?
I have raised support tickets as well for this, but they have not been helpful at all as expected.

Just tried now and its still the same, identical in fact…

Yes, report it to AppSheet support as I have done.

The Devs have found some areas of error but not the root cause.

This is getting CRITICAL now after 2 weeks.

I have. I reported shortly after posting this. A few days later they emailed to say it was fixed. It wasn’t and I emailed them back. A few days later they emailed to say it was fixed (again). I’ve been busy so it took me a week or so to check and reply that it was still not working.

I’m afraid this issue has not resolved yet. The main cause for this is still unknown but it only happens when you have lot of images to generate.

Can you ask them to specifically look at what they changed based on my timings above. It was working fine on large PDFs with 100+ images. Now its barely managing to insert 20% of them. It presumably must be a change at appsheet’s end?

Yes. I actually reported this a few years ago, but because it was spasmodic, it was never fixed.

Now its go worse

It will be a change a programmer has made without testing.

It’s a catastrophic error and needs backing out to the latest good version.

It has to be tested with a lot of images as the problem doesn’t show up with only a few images.

You can’t just test on two or three images and then assume the problem has gone away!

I sent Appsheet support a test app with a few hundred images so they could test it properly.

The PDF reporting has always been pretty poor; not only in terms of bugs but also in terms of functionality: for example it’s still doesn’t add as headers, footers, page numbers, bullets indents, all the things you need in a professional report.

Having the same issue with the PDF generation that has Images, need to generate the PDF several times for the images to show or send the PDF attached in an email to have the images show. And now the process for PDF generation has gotten slower for a 4-page PDF with up to 6 images.
