Imagen 3.0 Model Failure Pricing Implications

On the odd occasion imagen 3.0 fails to generate an image when using the API due to resource exhaustion or generating prohibited images, will Vertex AI still charge for those images?

Side note, is there a section in vertex AI or billing that shows a time-based breakdown of the image generator billing so its easy to see what vertex AI is charging for? (i.e. DATE X: $0.02 charged)

You generally shouldn’t be charged for failed Vertex AI image generations due to errors or content filtering. To track costs:

• Review Vertex AI pricing and SLAs for Vertex AI Image Generation.
• Use Google Cloud Billing Reports, filtered by “Vertex AI” and group by “Date” and “SKU Description” to see a daily breakdown of image generation costs.
• Monitor regularly. Watch for unexpected charges, examine SKU descriptions carefully, and consider using Cost Management tools.
