Google drive macos syncing is fundamentally broken

I have just been on a 30 minute support call with google support, and they were unable to help with a feature that is fundamentally broken in their macos drive desktop app. I cannot change the sync folder, due to some bs reason that they try to blame on apple (file provider), despite all other cloud storage providers having this feature. This, for anybody working in a creative industry, working with large files on many machines, makes google drive fundamentally broken.

Is there any workaround for changing the sync folder on the streaming setting on mac to an extrernal drive? I would really appreciate any help, i am kind of desperate.

Thanks
