Under my Workspace Account, in Gemini Pro, there should be an option to use Google Notebook as a knowledge source. Apparently, this is a new release, but in my knowledge (+) dropdown, it only shows ‘Upload Files, Add from Drive and Photos’. Note, I’m based in Australia, the YouTube tutorial where I’ve seen it working may be based in the USA.
Thanks
This is one of the challenges to us in Australia. Google often releases new ‘Extensions’ and ‘Knowledge Sources’ in the USA first. Australia typically follows in a later wave. If the tutorial you saw was from a US-based creator, they likely have access to a ‘Preview’ or ‘Early Access’ version that hasn’t hit the Australian data centers yet.
Two other things to check -
1. Workspace Admin ‘Toggles’ Because you are on a Workspace Account, your IT Administrator has total control over which ‘Extensions’ are active.
-
Even if the feature is available in Australia, it will stay hidden until your Admin enables ‘Research & Canvas’ or specific ‘Workspace Extensions’ in the Google Admin Console.
-
The Fix: Ask your admin to go to Apps > Google Workspace > Gemini and check if all ‘Extensions’ (specifically those related to Google Drive or Notebooks) are set to ‘ON.’
2. The ‘Workspace Labs’ Enrollment Many of these deep integrations (like using a Notebook as a live source) are initially launched under Google Workspace Labs.
- Check if you have the ‘beaker’ icon in the top-right of your Gemini or Gmail interface. If you aren’t enrolled in Labs, these experimental ‘Knowledge Source’ options won’t appear in your
(+) dropdown.
Thanks, Brettfreer, I think the release delay in Australia might be the culprit or a Workspace Account limitation. I’ve tried playing with the settings or similar you mentioned, but no luck.
Google Labs is available for sign-in, but Workspace Labs is not.
Anyway, fingers crossed it releases in Australia, appreciate your help, cheers
