As a power user of Google Workspace for my organization, I’ve noticed a significant gap in the Google Chat experience compared to other enterprise communication tools: granular chat management.
Currently, employees in our Pro environment lack the autonomy to effectively prune their sidebar or permanently delete outdated direct messages and group conversations once they are no longer relevant. This leads to:
-
Digital Clutter: Navigating through years of stale conversations makes it harder to find active projects.
-
Information Governance: Users should be able to proactively manage their own workspace footprint.
-
Workflow Efficiency: The current “Hide” feature is a temporary fix, but the conversations often resurface, causing unnecessary distractions.
I am requesting that Google Workspace Admins be given a toggle to allow Pro-tier users to permanently delete their own chats and better organize their conversation history.
