Feature Request/Enhancement: Google Groups, Sub-Group members inherit permissions

Hello,

I’m hoping for a way to restrict posting permissions for all users (internal and external), but grant posting permissions to sub-groups and their members. This would be in addition to their direct membership permission of receiving the main group emails if they happen to be a direct member.

Currently it appears that the sub-group posting permission to the main group does not apply to the sub-group members.

I’ve found out that you cannot make a sub-group a manager or owner of a main group, so granting posting via the owner/manager roles doesn’t work. Additionally adding every member of the sub-groups directly to the main group as a manager or owner grants more permissions than we want and also would force more work to configure peoples’ desired receiving settings. Furthermore there is no direct API to set a user’s posting permission.

To put it in perspective this would require manually setting 500+ users posting and receiving permissions on 100+ groups through the GUI. Not to mention the pain of maintaining the permissions every time someone should be added or removed from having the posting permissions.

The desired result would be sub-group members can post to the main group, but will not receive emails unless they are direct members of the main group.

The Ask: I’d love for the permission evaluations to be changed to allow for this, but API access to edit posting permissions would be a decent workaround for the current system.

Thank you
