When using the Desktop UX, and navigating from detail view to detail view, we have this nice bread-crumb display appear at the top.
- This makes it really easy to get “back” where you came from
Except…
If you navigate from one record to another record in the same table; when this happens, the breadcrumbs no longer continue adding.
- In fact, that image above is after navigating through 4 records of the same table
- But you wouldn’t know that based on the breadcrumb trail
- In fact, when you press the last item in the breadcrumbs, it takes you all the way back to the first record (not the previous one I selected).
Request
- Let the breadcrumbs build out even for records of the same table
- This way I can easily navigate backwards in the chain
So if i navigated to:
- A parent record…
- Then to it’s child…
- Then to a grandchild record…
- Then to a sibling of that grandchild…
- To another sibling…
- to another sibling…
The resulting breadcumbs would look like:
The community devs took away the category for feature suggestions, so I’m not holding my breath… but I figured I would throw the idea here anyways.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- Just an observation: AppSheet got to be as good as it is because they listened to core user feedback
- Not because the internal team had their own great ideas; there were some for sure, but if you put numbers to it you’ll likely find that most of the features in the platform were suggested by users… not employees.
By our powers combined…

As always, thanks for considering! (^_^)
