Improvement for New Desktop UX

I know I am powerless to give an influence to the Google team, as they are deaf to listen the community/user voice to make the platform better to the users. But let me now to give up.

In terms of New Desktop UX or other area for the UX/UI related issues, there have been no improvement nor no changes even after the community member speak loud to get the attention simply because we believe our voice make it better… But always ignored. I understood it is Google policy and culture, so I m not able to raise any other complains.

For instance, the new desktop UX, there is quite a lot of area for the improvement to let the app users to interact with apps far more easily. For example, this is one of the request for the improvement I pointed out the new desktop UX was under private preview, it was not taken. Then we hear from from our 100% of user this UX is not user friendly at all.

Upon opening UX and access to the detail view (with splits), the actions position in primary position are rendered at the header place. However, once we have multiple action, only 3 actions are rendered while the rest of available actions are HIDDEN (NESTED) inside 3 dots icons. I know what this 3 dots icon does indicate but the rest of 90% app user will not notice the available actions are hidden there. All in all, this is completely not friendly at all.

yes, I know this header area is used to display the view names and Breadcrumb UX as well, so it is going to be difficult to fix the balance. How much of the proportion of header area is given to show the view names or to show the available actions. But Actions are far more important to be displayed rather than showing Breadcrumb UX . This is not my private opinion only, but majority of my clients and app users would agree with this argument.

****Only 4 actions are shown while we have bunch of available spaces on the left….. The rest of the available actions are HIDDEN, meaning the average app users would not notice they have those options (actions).

Even after I post here, I know there will not be any changes taken by Google team, as I know Google \ AppSheet team will not touch with UX once it is released as GA (only changable during Preview Period). History tells us this is a fact.

AppSheet is developed by developers who don’t use their own product in any significant way. There is no QA team. All changes are driven by user stories written by a few, very large enterprise customers.

I know and we know and all the users know it.

I’m really sorry to read all this, I know you might have heard this a number of times but I will bring your comments to the product team and get back to you.

I wonder if people have noticed it but I really want to add one more area:

In a dashboard view that consists of multiples list view with multiple groupby layers like this. Going back/going up to the parent groupby layer is absolutely not trivial at all.

As the app creator, It took me quite a bit to be able to explore this feature in the beginning. And so its quite difficult for end-users to adopt this, especially in case of the groupped-by field is empty.

This improvement is the wish i’d like to add to the list.

I agree about the limited view of the actions. It can also be difficult for users to quickly understand what the action icons do without the text to go alongside them. The first action shows text, then the others don’t. But I realise with too many actions showing with text, it will quickly run out of space.
