We are asking for a feature request into Gemini App Web UI in order to provide our internal collaborators to get metrics when they select a model in Gemini Application.
Our company is very engaged in Sustainability and we want to inform our collaborators about the impact of selecting one or another generative AI model into the application.
Ideally, we would like to have a list of metrics which can guide the user to choose one or another generative AI model such as:
performance
carbon impact / energy in kWh impact,
pricing
The aim is to guide the users to choose the right generative AI / Gemini models which can better fits their needs because today, most of the collaborators of Decathlon choose by default our most advanced model “Gemini 2.5 Pro” and may be it is not the right fit.
Please adjust the requested sustainability indicators to be more specific. Accordingly to the INRIA recommendations the desired metrics for guiding model selection should be:
Energy Consumption (kWh)
Water Usage
Lifespan of Compute, Data Management, and Network Equipment
The Gemini App Web UI doesn’t currently expose model selection metrics like energy usage, carbon impact, or cost directly in the interface. The most practical approach today is to integrate your own decision-support layer using the Gemini API and Workspace Add-ons, pulling in data from Cloud Billing for pricing, and from external tooling such as Cloud Carbon Footprint or Google Cloud’s Carbon Footprint dashboard in the Cloud Console (Billing > Carbon Footprint) for sustainability metrics. You can then surface these metrics in a custom UI or prompt before model selection. I’d recommend also submitting this request through your Google Workspace admin’s support channel so it’s tracked as an official feature request.
