Created conditional formatting for a bar chart. Returning to the report Conditional Formatting is not present in the Style tab

After completing a report that used Conditional formatting rules, I was notified by a user that they did not see any color variance in their report.

Returning to the report I now see that there is indeed no formatting on the report. Opening the properties of that bar chart, I see that there is not Conditional Format section showing in the style tab at all!

Any ideas on where it went? Some searches reveal that it could be that Cell Visualization is enabled, but I also can’t find that setting anywhere either!

Hi @Scott_Moore This usually happens because conditional formatting is no longer supported for that specific chart configuration. In Looker Studio, conditional formatting is only available for certain chart types and setups. If the chart was modified after you created the rules, for example by changing the metric, switching the chart type, enabling a breakdown dimension, or changing it to a stacked bar chart, the Conditional formatting section can disappear from the Style tab and the rules are effectively removed.

It is also possible that the data source was changed or reconnected, which can reset chart-level formatting options. Another common reason is that some newer chart versions do not support the older conditional formatting behavior.

To fix it, try duplicating the chart and recreating it from scratch as a simple bar chart with one metric and no breakdown, then check if the Conditional formatting section appears. If it does, gradually reapply your previous settings. If the option is still missing, it is likely a product limitation or regression and should be reported in the Looker Studio Issue Tracker.
