I’m facing an issue with a project that was automatically created when I subscribed to Gemini Code Assist, and I cannot delete it due to permission errors.
Problem Description:
When I subscribed to Gemini Code Assist, Google automatically created a project
Project ID: strong-bus-krb5j
I’ve already deleted the billing profile associated with project
Error Details - When trying to delete the project, I get:
I have the exact same problem. I’ve spent 3 hours this morning going in circle in the cloud console. I don’t have and can’t seem to add permissions/roles for the Gemini Code Assist project so I can’t cancel it or edit it in any way. I also can’t contact tech support for the same reason.
I tried contacting billing support, but they said it’s outside their scope even though I am trying to cancel the subscription.
AFAIK it works as designed. Such project have been created specifically for Gemini-around stuff. You don’t have owner for this project, because it’s Google owned.
If you turned off Gemini Code Assists, according to this URL[1], you don’t have to do anything else.
My goal is to use the free “Gemini Code Assist for Individuals” extension in VS Code with my personal Google account.
When I tried to log in, the extension incorrectly forced me into the “Standard/Enterprise” flow and prompted me to “Select a Google Cloud project.”
Apparently, to get the free Code Assist version for individuals, it is important to have no project in Google Cloud. It seems however that a project was created when logging in for the Google Code Assist the first time.
I do not have the permissions to delete/shut down the project. So I am stuck in a loop.
I have not yet set up any billing information and do not see the reason to do so so that I am able to delete this empty project that I am not the owner of.
