Hi,
We’ve noticed that in Looker Studio, users with the “Viewer” role can no longer see or use the Download options (PDF export / CSV export) even when:
- “Allow viewers to download the report as PDF” is enabled in report settings
- “Allow downloading of data” is enabled in data source settings
- Data sources themselves allow export
- The user is logged in with a Google Account (not anonymous)
- The report is opened directly (not embedded) with the toolbar visible
This function worked previously for the same reports, so it appears to be a regression or an undocumented feature change.
What we have tested:
- Multiple browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari) and cleared cache
- Google Workspace and personal Gmail accounts
- No changes to report or permissions before issue appeared
- Temporarily granting Editor role restores download/export, but is not an option for stakeholders
Impact:
Stakeholders who previously could download reports now cannot, causing workflow disruption and manual workarounds.
Questions for the community and Google team:
- Is this a known bug or recent product change affecting Viewer role export capabilities?
- Is there any documented workaround?
- If intentional, could updated documentation be provided?
Thanks in advance for any confirmation or guidance.
