Annotating directly in Google Drive using iPad or iPhone

Our school has been using Google Drive folders as student portfolio. We check directly in Google Drive using comment feature. However, a friend of mine who is a Samsung Ultra S23 user discovered that she can annotate directly in Google Drive without downloading the files, and it works for PDF, JPEG and HEIC files, which makes it a lot easier for her to check students’ worksheets. On one hand, I cannot do this with my iPad or iPhone. There is no direct annotation feature for Apple users. I saw a video taken years ago that Markup Feature was available back then, but not anymore. I wonder why there is a discriminatory difference when it comes to devices. My other officemates who are Android users, and whose gadgets fared below the Apple products, can actually annotate directly in Google Drive. I hope that this is addressed by the developers.

I cannot believe IOS cannot support this feature in Google Drive but Android can! I too hope this can be addressed by the developers.

I work in an architects practice where we often present drawings to clients which are stored on our commercial Google Drive via our I Pads, if we wish to mark up any drawings we are required to download and open them in another app, download the mark up and save back to google drive. this is finickity, takes time and not ideal whilst a client is watching over you impatiently.

Whereas a collegaue with their Samsung Galaxy Tab can simply mark up as they are viewing on Google Drive without any messing about with other apps and saving back to the Drive afterwards.

A note for Apple (not that they will ever read this), the office is likely to move over to Android devices (which fills me with dread) simply for this one important feature!

Sushmita - thanks for raising this! I am totally with you in hoping for an update in the future. Doesnt seem that difficult to achieve in this day and age!
