An important security update on the app Consent Dialog

Hello AppSheet Users,

In the coming weeks, we’ll be rolling out a small update that improves security with the AppSheet Consent Dialog.

Current Consent Dialog Behavior

  • The AppSheet Consent Dialog is a privacy and compliance feature that prompts users to agree to data access terms before they can use an app when accessed for the first time.

  • The dialog is currently optional, but is enabled by default and is recommended to remain enabled in order to protect the end user’s privacy.

    • The app owner can decide to turn off the Consent Dialog ‘Require user consent’ setting via the Security > Options toggle in the editor.

    • It can also be customized for localization purposes.

Why is an update needed?

The upcoming update addresses a potential misuse of the dialog customization capabilities where user privacy could be compromised.

What’s changing?

  1. Upon initial use of an app, the Consent Dialog will become mandatory for all apps and for all users - unless both of the following is true:

    • The user is part of the same org as the app creator.
    • The app owner turns off the ‘Require user consent’ setting in security options toggle.
  2. The Consent Dialog will no longer be customizable - such as when localizing the dialog.
Instead, AppSheet will provide Consent Dialogs in the most common languages used by 99% of AppSheet users. The Consent Dialog language will appear in the user’s preferred language, as defined by their client device/browser’s locale setting.

With this update, when the dialog is enabled, app users (who are not part of the same org) will be able to agree to the specific data access terms of the app, so they can make an informed decision if they want to use it.
