What's the purpose of Skaffold in Cloud Deploy?

The cloud deploy (to cloud run) docs here https://docs.cloud.google.com/deploy/docs/deploy-app-run say “Cloud Deploy uses Skaffold to provide the details for what to deploy and how to deploy it properly for your separate targets.” The docs then go on to say I should create a skaffold.yaml file…. but that file is not used later in the tutorial!

So, I’m a bit confused as to the purpose of skaffold in cloud deploy. Do I even need to create a skaffold.yaml file?

The page Why Skaffold may answer your question. Per my understanding, Skaffold is required because Cloud Deploy uses Skaffold features.
