I’ve been seeing reports from users of a new template selection UI in Google Docs that looks like this. The problem is they don’t know how to find the company owned templates, the only thing there is Google provided templates.
What is happening because no change here was announced on the Workspace Updates blog (https://workspaceupdates.googleblog.com/) so this is a bit surprising and also a downgrade for users affected by this new UI.
Hey,
Hope you’re keeping well.
It looks like Google is gradually rolling out a new Docs template picker UI, and in some cases, the “From your organization” section is not surfacing company-owned templates yet. This is a server-side change, so it may appear for certain users before any Workspace Updates blog post is published. If your organization uses custom templates, they should still be accessible via Drive > New > Google Docs > From a template, or by visiting the template gallery link directly at https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/templates. If they’re missing there as well, check Admin console > Apps > Google Workspace > Drive and Docs > Templates to confirm templates are enabled and assigned to organizational units. You may also want to log a support case through Workspace Admin to flag the UI change impacting template visibility.
Thanks and regards,
Taz
I wonder if Google stopped the rollout because as far as I know, nobody else has seen this yet. Hopefully they are fixing it before trying again.
