I cannot delete my old network that has no resources attached.
I get following error:
The deletion of the network failed. Error: Operation type [delete] failed with message “The network resource ‘projects/XXX/global/networks/default’ is already being used by ‘projects/XXX/global/networkInstances/v-2010886378-6962c6d4-2aea-4ab5-acd6-c030d281895d’”
Does this mean that it is in use by some Google’s peering to somethign where we cannot access?
The error means the network cannot be deleted because it’s still being referenced by a network instance (v-2010886378-6962c6d4-2aea-4ab5-acd6-c030d281895d), even if no visible resources appear. This could be due to internal Google-managed resources, like VPC peering, default routes, or auto-created instances that aren’t directly exposed. You’ll need to identify and remove all references or peering connections before deletion; otherwise, GCP won’t allow it.
The error indicates that the network can’t be deleted because it’s still referenced by a hidden or active resource, such as a VPC peering, default route, or internal Google-managed instance. To fix this, locate and remove all dependencies or peering connections linked to the network before attempting deletion, as GCP prevents deleting networks with existing references.
