Too high of a bill in one day!

Over the weekend, I wanted to test what can be achieved with the Vertex AI service. I did a basic training with 10 examples. I tested the resulting model. I stopped working, but when I checked a day later, the bill was already over $300. This is an extremely high cost. Is it possible to know why it’s so expensive? Is there any way to reduce this cost somehow? The testing cost for Vertex AI is quite high. How can I figure out what Vertex is capable of at a lower cost? Is there any way to request a discount on the current bill?

Sorry to hear that your running bill has gotten over $300. To get a detailed breakdown of your charges and costs, I suggest to check the SKU descriptions for each charged service by going to the Reports page and Cost Table report. This is to verify the specific charges which are usually listed under Vertex AI. You may filter by SKU description, usage amount, usage unit, unrounded cost at the right.

Also, you may use Google Cloud Pricing Calculator. Click the “Add to estimate”. Then enter “Vertex AI” in the search box. From there you will be able to yield a rough estimate of your project’s monthly cost and get insights on how Vertex AI usage is being charge.

Regarding discounts or refund, you may contact Cloud Billing Support and confirm if they can grant you a goodwill credit.
