Tiles reorganizing when editing a dashboard

Our dashboards are working fine in production, but whenever we go to “Edit” them (whether to add a filter, add a new tile, or simply move things around) the tiles move around randomly. It makes it very difficult to make any adjustments, as you have to move the tiles all back to the correct/original position before you’re able to save/implement any changes.

Dashboard organization order must be completed by the end of this month

We’re now seeing this behavior in production and it’s causing problems.
Anyone heard from Looker or found the correct way to fix this?

We had this same issue as of this morning after the update. Talked to support just now. You need to check if in Admin>General>Preview the feature ‘Granular Dashboard Sizing’ is enabled, if it is, try disabling. This worked for us. I just tried.
Per support: This feature was introduced in this version, however this behavior was noted and reported to the Engineering Team, currently they are working on a permanent fix for this. For now, the workaround is to keep this feature disabled.

Thanks for this MeJones, when I checked for this Preview setting, it was removed, so I think this change was likely rolled back.

It looks like this behavior is related to the Granular Dashboard Sizing feature that was introduced in a recent Looker update. When this preview feature is enabled, some users have reported that dashboard tiles automatically reposition when entering Edit mode, which causes the layout to appear random.

A temporary solution that has worked for several teams is to disable the feature in Admin → General → Preview → Granular Dashboard Sizing. After disabling it, dashboards typically return to their normal behavior and tiles remain in place during editing.

If the setting is no longer visible, it may have already been rolled back by Looker. In that case, refreshing the dashboard or recreating the layout once should stabilize it. Otherwise, it would be best to open a Looker support ticket so the engineering team can confirm whether the issue is related to the recent update.

Hopefully this helps stabilize your dashboards until a permanent fix is released.
