Text-to-speech in African Languages

Hi everyone,

I’m currently building an educational app that includes a text-to-speech (TTS) feature. During development, I discovered that support for many African languages is still quite limited compared to English and other widely supported languages.

I’m interested in learning what advancements Google has made, or plans to make, to improve text-to-speech capabilities for African languages. High-quality TTS support would play a significant role in language preservation, accessibility, literacy, and creating better learning opportunities for millions of people.

Are there any Google Cloud services, Gemini capabilities, upcoming features, or recommended approaches that developers can use to build more natural and reliable TTS experiences for African languages?

I’d appreciate any guidance, resources, or insights from the community. Thank you!
