We would like to formally request the addition of an ownership transfer feature in NotebookLM.
Currently, when a user’s account is deleted (e.g., due to offboarding), all NotebookLM content is also permanently lost, with no ability to reassign ownership. The only workaround is a manual process involving Google Takeout for exporting data and re-importing it into another user’s account. This is inefficient, poses a risk of data loss, and is not scalable for larger organizations.
We strongly recommend introducing a feature that allows:
Admins to transfer NotebookLM ownership from one user to another
Or, users to delegate or share ownership with colleagues prior to offboarding
This feature is essential to ensure business continuity and effective data management within our Workspace environment.
We appreciate your consideration and hope this functionality can be prioritized in future updates.
(We would appreciate it if Google devs would take the time to finish things off. Workspace is a business tool, so we need business features. Such as data retention with notebook ownership transfer or Gemini discussion deletion/archiving. Because right now, it’s a f*cking mess.)
Thank you kindly for your post, we are happy to have you as a forums member! I wanted to share that NotebookLM does also offer a support community, please check out this link for more info: Join the NotebookLM community - Computer - NotebookLM Help
“Currently, NotebookLM doesn’t support ownership transfer. If a project needs to be moved to another account, the only workaround is to export the files and recreate the notebook under the new owner. Hopefully Google will add a native transfer feature in future updates.”
This is a much needed feature. We are building very large notebooks and the time and effort to recreate, share and distribute is costing us unnecessary time and money. The ability to transfer ownership in other G Suite areas such as Drive and Calendar is there, it needs to be added to NotebookLM
