I have a number of pdfs and images saved in Google Drive, is it possible to show a preview (thumbnail) of that pdf or image just by saving the Google Drive sharing link in the field?

If those images and PDFs are in limited number of folders on Google drive then you could explore the following option of Google drive folder as a data source.
