Hi everyone
When using an Excel pivot table, you have the option of showing values as a percentage of a base item in a base field. This is particularly useful when analysing user rentention of an app, and breaking it down by a column dimension.
For example, in the screenshot below, I have used ‘Monthly cohort’ as my row dimension and ‘Year cohort’ as my column dimension. The metric is the distinct count of users who were active in that month. I can set the values to display as a percentage of a base item- in this case I want that base item to be Monthly cohort=0, because that is the month in which all users have engaged with the app.
I can then get a visualisation of how many users who signed up in month 0, returned in month 1,2,3 etc. and break this down by year cohort:
I would like to replicate this chart in Looker Studio but haven’t yet found a way to do it. Looker Studio gives a comparison caluclation option ‘Percentage of Max’, which works fine if I don’t include a breakdown dimension.
As soon as I add the breakdown ‘Year cohort’, the comparison calculation shows the Percentage of Max of the entire dataset, and not the maximum value of each breakdown dimension. I want each series to start from 100%, like in the screenshot above, but you can see what I am getting in the screenshot below:
Can anybody out there help me acheive what I am trying to do?
Many thanks
Josh
