I am seeing this on our site currently as well running on Google App Engine. It is very intermittent, but about 20% of requests are failing over the past 30 minutes for us.
There was an active incident reported by Google related to this yesterday. We did not experience issues yesterday, however we are now seeing this since about 5:00pm EST.
Still have not seen any updates to App Engine status page though (https://status.cloud.google.com/regional/americas).
