Missing Dimensions in YouTube Analytics Integration

Hello,

I have a question regarding the integration between Looker Studio and YouTube Analytics.

【Current Situation】
・YouTube Analytics is connected as a data source
・Basic metrics (views, watch time, etc.) are being retrieved successfully

【Issue】
The following dimensions are not appearing in the available dimensions list:
・Artist name
・Viewer gender
・Viewer age

【Questions】

  1. Do these dimensions require special settings on the YouTube side to be displayed in Looker Studio?
  2. Are there any limitations when using YouTube Content ID (CMS)?
  3. If there are alternative methods to access this data, could you please advise?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hey,

Hope you’re keeping well.

Those dimensions aren’t exposed by the standard YouTube Analytics API connector in Looker Studio. Audience demographics such as gender and age are only available if your channel meets YouTube’s data thresholds and you access them via the YouTube Analytics API directly, using the audienceGender and audienceAgeGroup dimensions. Artist-related fields are not part of the public API unless you are using YouTube Analytics for Content Owners (via Content ID CMS) and have the necessary CMS account permissions. If you need these in Looker Studio, you’d need to pull them with a custom API query to BigQuery or Sheets first, then connect that dataset to Looker Studio.

Thanks and regards,
Taz
