Hi all,
We have a dashboard with cascading (linked) filters and we’re hitting a behaviour we can’t
explain. Hoping someone can tell us whether this is a known issue.
What happens
1. Open the dashboard. The “Filter X” dropdown is populated correctly.
2. Change the parent date filter to a different range and click Update.
3. Open “Filter X” again — it now shows “No values”.
4. It stays empty for the rest of the session, no matter how many times we reopen it or
change the date.
5. A full browser page reload fixes it, and it works again until the next time we change
the parent filter.
Setup
A user-defined (UI-built) dashboard. All tiles and all filters come from a single Explore in
a single model. Two filters are linked via "Additional options > Select filters to update
when this filter changes":
- Parent: a date filter using a relative range, e.g. “is in the last 3 weeks”
- Child: “Filter X”, a string filter
Why we don’t think it’s our data or our model
We checked our warehouse query history for the exact moments the dropdown appeared empty.
The suggestion query fired every time, completed successfully in well under a second, and
returned between 23 and 27 values. So Looker asked the database for the values, got them,
and then displayed an empty list anyway.
We’ve also ruled out:
- Empty result sets — the data definitely has values in the selected range
- Cross-Explore linking — everything is in one Explore and one model
- Slow or failing queries — all suggestion queries succeeded in under 0.5 seconds
- `suggest_dimension` / `suggestions: no` — neither is set on these fields
- `access_filter` / `sql_always_where` restrictions on the Explore
Do you know if it is a known issue? Is there a bug report or a fix on the way?
Is there a workaround other than reloading the page or removing the link entirely?
Thanks!
