Korean Commas Not Recognized in Chirp3 Voices

Hello,

We have identified an issue with Google Chirp3 voices where Korean commas (,) are not recognized at all. In English, commas are handled correctly, but in all Korean ko-KR-Chirp3-HD- voices, commas are completely ignored.

Please review this behavior. You can easily reproduce the issue with the following Korean example: “안녕하세요? 오늘의 상품은, 텔레비전, 모니터, 노트북, 전화기를 준비했습니다. 모두, 행복한 하루 보내세요.”

When this is processed in Chirp3 Korean voices, the commas do not produce any pause, unlike the English counterpart.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hi Injoong_Park,

You’ve identified that pauses indicated by commas (,) are not present in ko-KR-Chirp3-HD- voices, unlike their English counterparts. This is an interesting distinction, as typically, commas are indeed used to introduce short pauses in speech for better naturalness and readability. With this, I suggest filing a bug report so our engineering team can check whether this is a potential bug or project-specific issue only. Before filing, please check this documentation on what to expect after you’ve opened an issue.

In the meantime, you might be able to work around this by using a different punctuation mark or a specific SSML tag to force a pause. However, I understand that this is not a permanent solution and the core issue of comma recognition needs to be fixed.
