JMX performance cost in Production

Hi,

Apigee Private cloud V4.17.01

We are considering enabling JMX for all Edge components in Production to monitor application processes and message flow level statistics. We want to generate alerts if certain thresholds are reached.

  1. Is there a significant performance cost associated with using JMX to monitor components in production?

  2. Is there a better alternative to using JMX interface to capture flow level statistics and generate alerts?

For JMX or any other monitoring approach the impact on the system will be driven by the frequency of the calls, to components, generated by your monitoring tools. Enabling JMX has not substantial impact on Edge components.
