It feels like Google Gemini can do everything except use Google's own products. Or is this user error?

Seemingly simple query for Gemini within Google Docs: “Please add a 1pt border to all tables in this document.”

Response: A long-winded version of “I can’t do it, so do it yourself.”

So my question is this…Am I the only one who constantly runs into issues when asking Google Gemini to work within Google products? Am I just doing something wrong or asking the wrong way? Or is Gemini really unable to work with its own companion infrastructure?

Gemini works beautifully for legitimately hard tasks, but fails miserably at the simplest Google tasks. The absurdity is mindblowing, so it has to be user error.

AI on Google Search is designed as a language model and assistant, not document creation software. It cannot directly generate physical files, such as PowerPoint slides or Word documents [1]. However, it can provide the content, structure, and guidance needed to create them [1].

The main reasons for this approach include:

Tool Integration: The AI works within a chat interface and lacks direct access to the file systems or software needed to produce formatted documents, like Microsoft Office or Google Docs files [1].

User Control: Providing steps and content outlines allows users to use their preferred software to apply specific design, branding, formatting, and final revisions [1].

Content and Guidance Focus: The core function is generating text, ideas, and structured information. These are the building blocks of documents and presentations.

Safety and Ethics: Guiding the user through the creation process ensures the user maintains control of the final output. This is important for quality control, accuracy, and appropriate use.

Sometimes it may make your whole doc or slide over clear and supervised direction but it often give you directions how to make docs, slide etc
