Hello Looker Studio Support Team,
I am currently facing an issue in Looker Studio when trying to use the comparison feature (Previous Period / Date Comparison) with a Excel Sheets data source.
The report and charts work normally without comparison enabled. However, once I activate the comparison option, the following error appears:
"This data source was improperly configured.
The query returned an error.
Encountered ’ “t0.field2_Transaction_Date”’ at line 0, column 0. Was expecting: ‘)’ …"
Error IDs received:
08c3bede
e5960752
525a625b
Details about the setup:
Data source: Google Sheets
Date field type: Properly configured as Date
Data range: from 2023-01-01 to 2024-01-01
I already tried:
Renaming the date field
Creating a new date column
Refreshing fields
Recreating the data source
Using PARSE_DATE / DATEVALUE
Creating new charts from scratch
The same approach used to work correctly before, and the issue only started recently. This makes me think there may be a regression or internal query/parser issue related to comparison calculations with Google Sheets connectors.
Could you please advise:
Whether this is a known issue
If there is any workaround or fix available
Whether recent Looker Studio updates may have affected comparison behavior
Thank you for your support.
Best regards, Mohamed Tawfik
