In general you could try to have the signature column inside the table cell in template. This table cell can be below the other table of text you have in the report.

my problem seems to be that google doc can’t or doesn’t want to put the image behind the text
I’ve tried using a watermark, but it doesn’t print at all.
Yes, I think you will not be able to achieve the needful. In normal course, even watermark would have probably helped. But template to report conversion does not seem to support watermark. Per my understanding image will appear either below or above the signature column. Something like below.

for now i make a snipp with microsoft tools and put it in the template…
