How to see what drives a user is the manager of without logging into that specific user

We have a user who no longer works for us. It was requested to see and change what drives they were a manager of and then add other users as managers as they were the only single manager of the drives.

Does anyone have some suggestions on what to do without having to log into that user?

Give this a shot -

  • Log into the Google Admin Console. In the left-hand menu, navigate to Apps > Google Workspace > Drive and Docs. Click on Manage shared drives.
  • You will see a list of all Shared Drives in your organisation. You can use the search or filter tools to find the drives in question. Filter for ‘No Managers’, which will show you any shared drives that have lost management due to the user’s departure.
  • Highlight the Shared Drive you need to change, click the Actions dropdown, then select Manage members.
  • From here, you can: add new managers and remove the old manager.
  • Click Save.

Sorry, I should’ve been more clear. When the question was asked to me to figure out what drives the user was a manager of, the person asking didn’t know any names besides 3 of the drives that they were apart of.

You can easily manage this through the Google Admin Console without logging into the user’s account. Here are the steps:

Log in to the Google Admin Console using your admin credentials. Go to Apps > Google Workspace > Drive and Docs. Click on Manage Shared Drives. Hover over the specific Shared Drive and click on Manage Members. From there, you can see all current members, remove the former employee, and add a new user as a Manager.

Alternatively, if you have many drives to manage, you can use GAM (Google Apps Manager) via the command line to audit and update shared drive permissions in bulk.

GAM is a good option. You can also create an app script that will do this for you.
