We can’t recover an Instagram account because the number associated with the IG account is now an auto attendant (it used to be a standard google voice number) and keeps sending text messages we can’t access. And IG does not have any other way to recover the account. I thought we could assign a temp license to the auto attendant but I found out this is not something that can be done. We are totally stuck. is there a way where you could temporarily allow my auto attendant to receive SM
@nicostermann This is a community of fellow admins so your question is likely better placed in a google support ticket. Sorry and good luck! -KAM
yes i did that prior and they told me to sign up here and hopefully i can get a support person to allow text message on my auto attendant, even for a short period of time, so i can recover my account
As @KAM said, pretty much everyone here is just a Google admin working for some organization or another (greetings from the University of California, Berkeley!), so we aren’t really going to be able to help beyond sympathizing.
There is an unfortunate pattern where Google support folks essentially try to offload people to this site when they get stuck and don’t want to invest the effort to find a real solution or bug fix. They’ll say something like “post it to the feature ideas section of GCC,” even though it’s actually a bug, not a feature idea.
this is exactly what they told me to do. anyway, do you know of a possible workaround for my issue?. i’m really stuck here.
I don’t know, sorry. I don’t know much about Voice as we don’t use it here.
Personally, I’d push back on support a bit more. For example, is there maybe some way they can switch your auto attendant back to a standard Google Voice number for a few minutes (maybe late at night or on a weekend, when you’re unlikely to get many calls)?
If you do want to post to feature ideas:
If you do not already have access, you need to request it first. See https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/custom/page/page-id/Workspace-Feature-Ideas-FAQ for how to do that.
Once you have access, go to https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Feature-Ideas/gh-p/workspace-ideas-group . There, you can upvote and comment on any similar idea, or post a new idea.
If you are submitting a feature idea, be sure to explain the problem that you’re trying to solve with the feature idea, not just the idea itself. For example, saying “when my users are trying to do ‘A’, they often get confused by the fact that the buttons to do ‘X’ and to do ‘Y’ look quite similar to each other, which leads to this unintended consequence” is far more likely to get fixed than a feature idea that just says “change the color of the button ‘Y’”.
Cheers,
Ian
@nicostermann I had a similar situation. You can disable the auto-attendant account and link the number back to a user account, allowing you to access the 2FA and update the account temporarily. Then go back in the GV Admin settings and reactive the phone number as the auto-attendant. I suggest doing this during off-peak hours. However, I do wish SMS was supported on the auto-attendant number.
