Google Analytics cookie "expires" attribute overwritten warning

Hello,

I’m seeing this warning in the browser console:
“The value of the attribute “expires” for the cookie “_ga_M3Y04S9QEF” has been overwritten.”

This is related to Google Analytics 4. Is this a problem or just a harmless warning? Should I do something about it?

I’m not sure which forum would be the best place to ask this question. I would appreciate any guidance.

Thank you!

Hey,

Hope you’re keeping well.

This warning is generally harmless and occurs when multiple scripts set the same GA4 cookie (_ga_*) with different expires values, causing the browser to note that one value overwrote another. It doesn’t affect tracking accuracy in most cases. If you want to confirm, check your GA4 tag configuration in Google Tag Manager or your site’s analytics script to ensure only one tag instance is firing. For GA-specific questions, you’ll get more targeted help in the Google Analytics Help Community, as it’s outside Google Cloud’s scope.

Thanks and regards,
Taz
