GKE Console UX question - No way to find out whether cluster is Standard or Autopilot mode?

This is very basic from the usability perspective. From the GKE Console (details tab ) is there no way to find out whether the cluster is a Standard GKE cluster or Autopilot Cluster?

Hi @dheerajpanyam , I am able to see Mode: Standard or Autopilot; that’s the easiest way to spot the difference. The Automation section in Details also have a few options enabled for Autopilot, like for instance "Node auto-provisioning (Autopilot mode) which cannot be disabled.

Interesting. I remember seeing in the past too but not anymore. Where do you see it ? Under Kubernetes Engine → Clusters → Details? as shown below?

You should see it on the cluster list page:

@garisingh I don’t see it. I made sure i selected all the display columns

I have a suspicion that it only shows up if you have an Autopilot cluster provisioned. If all clusters are standard clusters, I don’t think “Mode” shows.

@garisingh Okay i can recollect seeing this message somewhere now that you mentioned. That is an interesting design not showing mode if they are standard GKE Clusters. As an end user I need to remember this.

After reviewing your comments, I examined my projects and can confirm that if there is no pre-existing Autopilot cluster, the “Mode” column does not appear.

This design works well with the earlier functionality that existed (I don’t know several months back) when “Standard” was the default mode. Now that “Autopilot” is default mode it makes sense to show only “Standard” clusters and NOT show mode for “Autopilot” clusters.
