I’m a big fan of Google and use Gemini Code Assist for VSCode since it rolled out. This was a solid first step. However, in the past few months I have seen no improvements being made to the product. At this point it has fallen too far behind GitHub Copilot and this makes me wonder what’s going on.
As of today Gemini for VSCode still has no support for .ipynb files, while GitHub released Copilot Edits.
My understanding is starting January 2025 Google begins charging for Gemini, and the price is pretty much the same as GitHub Copilot, which pushes me to switch back to GitHub.
I’m hoping that in December Google will blow the doors off with the hot new release that will dwarf GitHub Copilot. The question, I guess, is … is it worth waiting?
