I am writing to formally suggest a new feature for the platform: native input masks for text and number fields. While AppSheet is a powerful no-code platform, it currently lacks a built-in property to format data automatically as a user types (e.g., for CPF, CNPJ, or phone numbers).
Currently, developers must rely on the expression “engine” to create workarounds, such as using Valid If for data integrity and Virtual Columns with complex CONCATENATE, LEFT, MID, and RIGHT formulas to display formatted results. Implementing a native input mask property would greatly enhance the User Experience (UX) by providing real-time feedback and ensuring data consistency without requiring manual, multi-step logic.
This feature would streamline the app creation process, aligning with the platform’s goal of enabling citizen developers to build professional applications quickly and efficiently. Please consider adding this request to your Feature Ideas roadmap for community voting and development.
Hi @Eduardo_Zanette
I support the proposed suggestion. Additionally, I would like to submit a few feature requests to enhance AppSheet’s functionality:
- Password/Masking Column Type: The addition of a specific column type to mask original text (input masking), both during data input and in the preview view, to improve the security of sensitive data.
- Row Selected Feature for Page Navigation: Adding a Row Selected function to the Behavior of Detail Views that allows us to specify a target page or view for navigation. Currently, “Back” navigation is limited to the history stack. With this feature, we could redirect users directly to a specific page or view, similar to the navigation flexibility found in other parts of AppSheet.
- Responsive Charting: Adding a more adaptive chart column type (similar to Ref Row) . Currently, when the app is opened on a mobile device in landscape mode, charts become distorted or stretched. We need adjustments to ensure the chart’s aspect ratio remains proportional across different screen orientations.
- Detail View Panel Customization: Providing an option in the Detail View settings to choose between a transparent background or a standard panel (solid color/contained), to allow for better UI design flexibility.
Thank you so much @Eduardo_Zanette and @Syamsudin for the feature requests. I will gladly submit this to our engineering team for their review and evaluation. I will be sure to keep you updated as we receive any feedback or developments regarding these features.
