Feature Request – Enable SQL Querying for CSV / Tabular Data Sources

Dear Looker Studio Team,

I would like to suggest a highly valuable feature that would greatly enhance the flexibility and power of Looker Studio:

Enable SQL-like querying capabilities for tabular data sources such as CSV files, Google Sheets, and Excel.

Currently, when using these data sources, users are limited to basic filtering and transformations. Unlike using BigQuery or SQL-based connectors, we’re unable to write custom SQL queries to manipulate or prepare data directly within Looker Studio.

Adding this functionality would allow users to:

  • Perform more advanced data transformations (e.g., joins, aggregations, filtering)

  • Reduce the need for preprocessing data outside the platform

  • Empower non-developer users to work more efficiently with their data

  • Make Looker Studio a more powerful self-service BI tool, especially for small teams or solo analysts

This feature would make working with lightweight or static datasets (like uploaded CSVs or Sheets) much more powerful without needing to set up external databases or pipelines.

Thank you for considering this enhancement. Looker Studio continues to be an excellent tool, and this would be a game-changer for many users.

Best regards,
Zeel Sheladiya
