Dear Google Workspace Support Team,
We are writing to submit a feature request on behalf of our customer regarding the Gemini integration in Google Workspace (specifically within Google Sheets and Google Docs).
Currently, when users interact with the Gemini side panel, the Web Search grounding feature is enabled by default. While Web Search provides helpful real-time data, our organization’s data security policy requires that Web Search grounding be turned OFF by default domain-wide to ensure queries remain restricted to internal sheets and data unless a user explicitly toggles it on.
We would like to request an administrative setting in the Google Workspace Admin Console (under Apps > Google Workspace > Gemini) that allows admins to:
- Set the default state of Web Search grounding to OFF for the entire organization or per Organizational Unit (OU).
- Retain active Gemini access for users while enforcing this default setting.
Please let us know if this feature can be logged with the Google Workspace product engineering team for consideration in upcoming releases.
