Feature request: Ability to Set "Sidebar" as the Default View for Google Meet Hardware

Hello Support /Product team,

We are submitting a request on behalf of our clients to implement a setting that allows administrators to change the default in-meeting view for Google Meet Hardware devices.
Problem Statement

Currently, the default view when a user joins a meeting via Google Meet Hardware is Dynamic View. The client prefers and consistently requires the Sidebar View to be active for their meetings. Because the system defaults to Dynamic View, users must manually navigate to the setting on the control tablet and change the view to Sidebar at the start of every single meeting. This repetitive manual intervention is causing friction and a negative user experience for the client.

Desired Feature/Solution

We request the capability to set the Sidebar View as the default view for Google Meet Hardware units.

As this view setting (“Sidebar View”) is already an existing option accessible within the meeting, we believe this capability may exist as an internal toggle or flag within the Google Admin Console settings for the Meet Hardware units.

Goal: The conference room should launch into Sidebar View automatically upon joining a meeting, eliminating the need for manual adjustment.

Research Performed

We have thoroughly searched Google Support articles and reviewed the Google Admin Console settings for Meet Hardware units and could not locate any existing feature that permits this customization.

Business Impact

Implementing this feature will significantly improve the meeting experience and workflow for the client, reducing manual steps and ensuring a consistent, preferred environment for their critical meetings.

Thank you for considering this request.

Best regards,
Bhuwan Bisht

Hey,

Hope you’re keeping well.

This setting isn’t currently configurable in the Google Admin Console or via any Meet Hardware device management APIs. Meet Hardware defaults to Dynamic View by design, and view preferences are stored only per meeting session, not persistently. The best path forward is to submit this as a formal feature request through your Admin Console under Devices > Google Meet hardware > Contact support or via the Workspace Feature Ideas board, which routes feedback directly to the product team. Include your business impact details so it can be prioritized for future releases.

Thanks and regards,
Taz
