I have been actively following the latest learning topics and community announcements here on the forums, and I truly value the quality of information shared by the team and fellow developers. While these forums are excellent for structured documentation, announcements, and long-form troubleshooting, I would like to propose the creation of an official Discord server for the Google Cloud and Skills Boost communities.
Why a Discord Server would benefit our community:
- Real-time Collaboration: Many of us are working through the Skills Boost Arcade challenges simultaneously. A chat-based platform would allow for quicker, real-time collaboration on debugging code or discussing specific lab requirements.
- Casual Mentorship: Discord’s structure encourages more casual, low-friction interactions between experienced community members and those just starting their cloud journey.
- Event Coordination: During live events like Google Cloud Next or “InFocus” weeks, a live channel would facilitate better community engagement than a static forum thread.
- Resource Sharing: Dedicated channels for specific technologies (e.g., #vertex-ai, #tpu-optimization, AppSheet) could act as a living library of shared community tips and quick-fix workarounds.
I believe that moving some of the more fast-paced, conversational discussions to a dedicated Discord server would complement the existing forum well, leaving this space for the detailed guides and official announcements it currently excels at.
I would love to hear thoughts from the community moderators and other members on whether there is interest in establishing a more synchronous space for us to connect and grow our skills together.
