Does billing transfer to a reseller billing account affect billing IAM permissions, how does it work?

I have seen a couple of issues with a billing account post transfer to a Google Cloud indirect Reseller. Let me explain it in detail

  1. Customer by default has to pay to Google and has a billing account ID say X . Assume customer is interested in transferring billing to a Google Cloud indirect reseller.

  2. Google Cloud Reseller onboards the customer to the distributor’s billing portal. In the process there is a parent billing account Y created whose sole control rests with the distributor plus there is a sub-account let’s call it Z created in the customer’s GCP portal

Questions

  1. What happens to employees of the customer who have Billing Admin role on X billing account? Do they loose access?

  2. After billing transfer I am unable to see the “documents” menu in the GCP console (billing page), why did it vanish?

Hello @dheerajpanyam , Welcome on Googl****e Cloud Community.

1. What happens to employees of the customer who have Billing Admin role on X billing account? Do they loose access? - As far as I remember, yes. You have to ask you reseller provider to grant Billing related roles to your sub-billing account.

  1. After billing transfer I am unable to see the “documents” menu in the GCP console (billing page), why did it vanish? - Because you are not charged directly by Google anymore. It’s on reseller shoulders to generate invoices and send it to you. If you want to see your invoices, you have to go to Resellers portal.

If this helped, mark it as a “Accepted Solution”!
