DATE FORMATTING in detail view

Hi friends,

How to format the date and time column in detail view as DD/MM/YYYY , HH-MM . ?

Example: 18/12/2024 8.50 PM

Try the following:

If you are working with Google Sheets as your database, choose the column with your date in Google Sheets, click on Format, and select “Date” or “Date and Time” according to your needs. If necessary, customize it, but it’s recommended to work with the default date format.

In the same Google Sheets, choose “File,” then “Settings,” and select the time zone and location where you are.

In Table Settings in AppSheet, make sure you have the same location as in Google Sheets.

If none of this works naturally (or natively), I will give you an unconventional suggestion. Try converting the date to day with DAY(), month with MONTH(), and then year with YEAR(), and finally concatenate the result as you like. I don’t think this is the best option, but the date will display correctly.

However, I should clarify that many times on the device, the date looks fine while in the editor it does not, so don’t panic quickly. Check that it is not just something in the editor.

Regards

Thanks a lot.

I could see formatting or localization works in mobile as expected . but in desktop view it is not working. Do you know how to rectify it ?

If you are using Chrome Browser

  1. Click the far right top corner, three dots.
  2. Go to settings.
  3. Select Languages.
  4. Add language. English (United Kingdom) for dd/mm/yyyy. English (United States) for mm/dd/yyyy.
  5. Click the three dots beside your chosen language.
  6. Display in this language.
  7. Restart browser.

Then the expected date format will come. It is working fine for me.

Hi @jaichith

AppSheet will use your default locale from your device. @VarunChandran 's suggestion is perfect for this.

If you need to display a “forced format” for display purpose, you may want to use the expression TEXT()

TEXT([date-column],"DD/MM/YYYY , HH-MM")

Finally this method worked without taking much efforts

I admire your broad level of knowledge in appsheet. Thank you so much.

@VarunChandran @Aurelien @Gustavo_Eduardo Thank you all. :blush:
