Cannot connect Google AI Studio to GitHub - 'authentication error' persists

I’m experiencing a persistent issue with the GitHub integration in Google AI Studio. The tool consistently fails to create a new repository and returns an “authentication error.” This prevents me from using the intended workflow of syncing my project directly to GitHub.

I’ve already tried the following troubleshooting steps without success:

  • Reinstalling and reauthorizing the “Google AI Studio” app in my GitHub account settings.

  • Trying a different web browser.

  • Clearing my browser’s cache and cookies.

  • Manually creating the repository on GitHub and attempting to push to it from AI Studio.

The error message I receive is: “Failed to create GitHub repository: authentication error. Please try again.”

This appears to be a bug, as the issue persists across different browsers and after a full reset of the integration. This bug prevents me from using the core functionality of the tool for version control.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Did you solve the problem? I have the exact same issue here.

Courtesy of Koba from Klimt Publicidade’s AI specialists team

problem with the auth (for me) was: multiple accounts logged in the browser profile. Solution: reset all and login from incognito tab, that has no other emails/users logged, thus not triggering the auth error. Hope it solves for you all also.

It’s still the same, I haven’t had any solutions and I gave up using it.

I tried everything, including using the incognito tab, other empty browsers, everything. It didn’t work for me.

Having the same issue, seems there’s no way to reconnect after revoking access from github

How did you force the reauthorization from google ai studio?

I was able to figure this out ofc right after I posted I was stuck. The trick is you need to revoke from 2 places on github:

  1. Applications - Settings - App Installations
  2. Authorizations - Settings - App Authorizations

Once you revoke both, then refresh, AI Studio will ask you to sign in again.

This didn’t fix one of my projects where it refuses to generate a commit message, or let me type one, to push an update, but it did let me re-auth after uninstalling.

How do I use a different Github account? I just revoke it and i didnt know what to do

This worked! Thank you so much

If u are using AI studio + Github, the issue is when u “sinc” first time Github with the Ai Studio, if u “select” only one respository, its keeps blocks for creating new repositories…

Solution? Go Github > Integrations / Applications > Authorized GitHub Apps > Delete or revoke Access to Google AI Studio.

Then Refresh and force new cache on the browser, then go to AI Studio and try to “reconect” github and make SURE u select “ ALL REPOSITORIES “ so taht will allow google to create repositories, and not blocks u then.

if u are having the same issue, was the solution I found. ( google should tell u, like ohh u selected only one repository, we can not save on a new one, jeje, but thats the issue )
