Cannot Authenticate to Google Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL) - Connection Fails

Hello,

I am unable to connect Looker Studio to my Google Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL database. The authentication step consistently fails with a generic error: “Sorry, we encountered an error and were unable to complete your request.”

Key Information:

  • Latest Error ID: [Copy the most recent Error ID here, like 72dc80e0]

  • Google Cloud Project ID: [Find this on your Google Cloud Console dashboard]

  • Cloud SQL Instance Connection Name: `our-signal-470614:us-central1:(PII Removed by Staff)

Troubleshooting Steps Already Taken:

We have exhaustively troubleshooted this issue and confirmed the following:

  1. Firewall: All four primary Looker Studio IP ranges (146.148.0.0/16, 107.178.224.0/20, etc.) have been correctly added to the Cloud SQL instance’s “Authorized Networks” and have had more than 24 hours to propagate.

  2. Credentials: The password for the postgres user has been reset multiple times. The current password is confirmed to be working via an external SQL client (DBeaver) from an authorized IP.

  3. Connection Details: All connection parameters in Looker Studio have been verified as correct (Public IP, Port 5432, Database ‘postgres’, Username ‘postgres’).

  4. SSL: The connection has been attempted with “Enable SSL” both checked and unchecked in Looker Studio, and with “Allow only SSL connections” both enabled and disabled in Cloud SQL. All combinations fail.

  5. Licensing: This is the free version of Looker Studio, which should support this Google Cloud SQL connection.

Since the firewall appears to be open and the credentials have been verified to work with another client, this seems to be a platform-level issue with the Looker Studio authentication process for this specific connection.

Please investigate using the provided Error ID. Thank you.

Same here, with all the combination tried by the OP, but with Heroku-hosted PostgreSQL.
